Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is celebrating his 40th birthday today. Dhoni’s life received the Bollywood treatment with the biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story directed by Sushant Singh Rajput, which chronicles MSD’s journey from his youth to the final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
While we didn’t get to see Dhoni’s acting skills, Sushant had previously shared that MSD was a great actor. In one of his interviews, Sushant said, “He (Dhoni) is a very good actor. If you watch any of the videos we did, where he asks me what’s in the movie, the script lines were only five-six. I came up with a few lines, just like that and he reacted to it. Then I reacted, then he did. He is therefore a very good actor.
While Mahendra Singh Dhoni has featured in several commercials, few people know he has ever been approached for a movie and even agreed to star in it. In a promotional video for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Sushant and Dhoni can be seen talking about the film.
In 2010, Dhoni made a cameo appearance in a movie called Hook Ya Crook, directed by David Dhawan. The film, starring John Abraham, Kay Kay Menon, Pawan Malhotra, Shreyas Talpade and Genelia D’Souza, was based on the life of a cricketer, but it never saw the light of day.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Instagram account is a testament to his love for theater and Bollywood. He once shared a photo collage featuring superstar Rajinikanth and wrote, “Tried to copy the pose from The One and Only THALAIVAR.”
Fans continue to hope that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will hit the big screen soon.
