For the publisher:
After attending in person, I watched the last 20 minutes of the video from the December 14 city council meeting on the city’s website. I advise you to do the same. Is it any wonder that Merrill does not grow up or that he has the reputation he has? Between the recent depreciation of an alderman elected by the city administrator and the mayor who throws temper tantrums in public, hammers on desks, lectures to council members, spits curses and collectively suggests to anyone who has had the audacity to vote for Donald Trump is a “group of buffoons who threatened our democracy on January 6”, can you blame them?

How can the City continue to brag about its “rules of civility” or its value statements suggesting that they work together in a “respectful manner”, be “responsible for what they do and say” and “provide a professional and respectful service to those who live, work or visit ”here if these are the examples given by our leaders? This latest explosion is just another shameful example of why our citizens need to get involved and demand that our leaders be held accountable for their actions. They have to go. The continued complacency of our citizens only empowers them. What you allow is what continues.

It’s your community, and it’s time to stand up and demand better.

It’s the season

Recently we were shopping at County Market in Merrill for a church chili fundraiser and also to restock our kitchen. There were many, many other shoppers also stocking up for Christmas and therefore long queues at the checkout. Gail paid our bill with a church credit card and the rest with a personal check. The check was refused due to an unrecognizable bank number. This caused confusion and delays for other customers awaiting payment. A gentleman in the next checkout aisle gave our cashier a handful of money to pay our remaining bill and left… No one recognized this individual. We immediately stopped by our bank (Nicolet Bank) to find out why our check had been declined. We have been told that this problem is not new to the world of electronic banking. Our bank had recently changed its name to Banque Nicolet, so a different routing number not recognized by the store, and we had just started using new checks. From this confused and embarrassing situation the true spirit of Christmas was present and the greatest gift for all of us… pay forward. A huge THANK YOU to the unknown gentleman.
