Videos are perhaps the most popular media choice for almost everything today. You can find them in social media posts, on YouTube, in promotions, and they’re even used to gain customers. And while creating professional-looking videos may seem complex to you, it’s a snap with a simple video editor like Clipchamp.
Microsoft recently acquired the popular Clipchamp video editor, and it’s now available as a desktop app from the Microsoft Store on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. So let’s see how to easily create cool videos with Clipchamp.
How to get started with Clipchamp
Clipchamp is easy to use even if you are new to video creation and editing. This online video editor is faster because it processes your video files in the browser itself. To get Clipchamp:
- Download the Clipchamp application from Microsoft Store.
- Create a Clipchamp account (you can use Microsoft Google, Facebook, Dropbox or your email).
- Start editing and creating videos with your Clipchamp app.
- Whenever you want to use Clipchamp, use its shortcut in your Windows Start menu and it will open in your Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser.
How to Create a Quick Instagram Video for Your New Website
You could run a pizza place from home, be a freelance graphic designer, or be a talented singer. Wouldn’t it be great to create an Instagram promo video of your department’s new website? Let’s see how.
Once connected to Clipchamp, your dashboard will open. Click on the Make a video button to access Clipchamp’s online video editor.
In the leftmost pane you will find the main menu with a lot of options that you can experiment with. Next to the menu, you’ll find Template Categories, which contains both the premium (watermarked) categories that come with the paid plans and the free templates.
The premium plans come with higher resolutions, 720p to 1080p exports. And there is also a Branding Kit where you can create and store your brand logos, fonts and colors.
While the video quality of the basic free plan only lets you render up to 480p, it’s still a good tool for personal use. The basic plan comes with free audio and video templates and you can always use the free version to do all your video editing. As such, even the basic plan is great for creating videos for social media and YouTube.
To get started, choose a free model to experiment with. Each model can be previewed by clicking on it. When you select a model, its video and audio files load into the Your media editor section and on the timeline. You can read it in the preview window at the top of the timeline.
For this tutorial, I chose an Instagram website launch template with a 1: 1 aspect ratio. The model is that of a rocket launch as you can see in the image below. I’m going to use it to make a teaser video for the website launch of an upcoming pizzeria.
To simplify the video creation process, I’ve covered each major step in a separate section, starting with adding and editing text in the templates.
How to add and edit text in video templates
To add text, click on the purple text box above the video section in the timeline (each text appearing in the video will have a separate text box). Editing options will appear above the preview window, namely Text, Transform, Colors, Filters, Adjust Colors, and Fade.
Click on the Text option to change the text and also the font. See the screenshot below, which shows I changed the text to Get ready for a delicious launch.
Further in the video, the text Website.com appears. To change this, click on its purple text box, select the Text option to add your website name. I replaced the text with my website name, which is SliceYum.com.
You can preview the video to see how it looks. If you want to change the style of the text, select Text in the main vertical menu on the left to browse the options. I chose a Two lines style for my website name, SliceYum.com, and below is the launch date: 1.1.2022.
How to add another video or image to your video template
You can add videos or images by clicking the circular + button at the top left of the editor. Then just drag and drop the files or browse the files from your computer. You can also connect directly to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and Google Photos. You can even add media from your phone.
You can also add files from Clipchamp’s stock videos and images, or choose graphics with options like backgrounds, overlays, GIFs, and stickers.
You can record new videos by clicking Save and create in the leftmost menu. This allows you to create a screen recording, a video via your computer’s webcam, or both at the same time.
In addition, there is a Text to Speech option built into Clipchamp. Just type in the text you want to narrate and choose a language. You can choose between male and female voices, and there are even options for different accents. And they look very natural too.
Since my website launch date is January 1, 2022, I thought I would end the video with a festive greeting. To do this, browse the Free use store videos and choose one. You can click to preview and add from there or just drag and drop it at the end of the timeline. I chose a video with a Christmas tree and gifts, with a blank space to write a message.
For the message, you can choose another style by clicking on Text in the main menu on the left. I chose the Make it shine style. Then changed the text to Merry Christmas Merry 2022 SliceYum.com. And you can see in the screenshot below that this will nicely end the promo video.
How to add music to video
To add more joy and good vibes, you can add royalty free music to your video. To do this, select the Music & SFX main menu option. Select a free-to-use track and drag and drop it onto the timeline from where you want the music to start.
For my Christmas and New Year musical theme, I chose the evergreen instrumental “We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”. I set it up to start when the festive video section begins, then shortened the length to only have the first row by dragging the edges of the music box.
Likewise, you can trim a video to fit the length of the music. To trim a video clip, select it in the timeline (click to highlight it), then click and drag the edges back and forth.
How to add a transition in a video
When using two or more clips in a video, the point where the clips change can seem shocking. To solve this problem, you can add a transition to smooth the change.
To select Filters and transition from the main menu. Then drag an appropriate transition between two video clips. Preview the transition in the preview window. If you don’t like it, try other transitions until you find the one you like best.
Once you are done, you can click Export at the top right, and the video will start exporting to the browser. You will see options to save and share your video like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. You can even upload your video directly to YouTube, Tik Tok, or Pinterest.
Once it’s done, you can grab the video link to share it with whoever you want. And, finally, Clipchamp will save a copy of your video to your PC, allowing you to publish it anywhere or save it to the storage of your choice.
How to convert your Instagram video to a YouTube video
As mentioned above, the Instagram video template I chose was in 1: 1 aspect ratio. But you can also reuse the same video for YouTube by changing its aspect ratio to 16: 9, and the image will enlarge to best fit the frame.
Likewise, you can change the aspect ratio of the video to use as a Facebook cover, portraits for stories, a social feed, and even a vertical for Pinterest.
Create cool videos like a pro with Clipchamp
There is so much more you can do in Clipchamp like crop, rotate, slow down or speed up, or add filters to videos. In addition, thousands of videos, images and audio files with full commercial licenses are integrated.
So go ahead and start creating cool videos, for business or pleasure, for social media posts, and as awesome greetings to your loved ones.
Don’t be fooled by the name; It’s easy to create stunning videos using Windows 11 Photos app.
