Ahmedabad: The Bajrang Dal has said it will not allow three shows by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui to be held in Gujarat and has warned organizers to cancel those shows or face the consequences.
Munawar Faruqui is expected to perform three shows – Dongri to Nowhere – in Gujarat next month, according to an online ticket booking site. The first is scheduled at the Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium in Surat on October 1, the second at the HK College Auditorium in Ahmedabad and the third at the Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Nagargruh in Vadodara.
“Munawar Faruqui has always ridiculed the Hindu gods and goddesses. He hurt the religious feelings of Hindus with his comedy. Hindu society has been tolerant, but Bajrang Dal has not. Bajrang Dal knows how to kick things off, ”said Jvalit Mehta, head of Bajrang Dal in northern Gujarat.
He added that Bajrang Dal will now allow any Faruqui show to be held in Gujarat. “I’m telling the organizers. Cancel all his shows. If you don’t, be prepared to deal with the consequences – financial, physical and mental.
Anyway, Bajrang Dal will now allow these shows to be held in Gujarat, ”Mehta said in a recorded video message.
Jvalit Mehta said his organization is still trying to identify the show’s organizer. “Bajrang Dal activists will be present in the three locations of the three cities to ensure that the performances do not take place,” Mehta said.
