The Peranakan, a restaurant on Orchard Road, has announced that its last day of operation will be Sunday, November 28.
The restaurant is also having a closing sale, with all proceeds going to their non-profit organization The Saturday Movement.
Closed on November 28
On its Facebook, the restaurant indicated that the final closing date had been brought forward from December 5 to November 28, because “entrepreneurs need more time to reintegrate”.
In the post, the restaurant said it had been “overwhelmed” by hundreds of messages of encouragement and requests to reopen the restaurant.
After five years of activity, The Peranakan thanked its supporters for their “concern and love”.
The Peranakan offers homemade Strait cuisine, served without MSG, with vegetarian and vegan options.
Some iconic dishes include Ngoh Hiang shrimp (S $ 15), Ayam Buah Keluah (S $ 22) and Kueh Pie Ti (S $ 20 for a set of 10).
The restaurant also offers delivery throughout the island and orders can be placed in line.
The Peranakan retail store also sells nonya kebayas, batik shirts, homemade cookies, and Peranakan porcelain.
The restaurant is having a closing sale, with up to 90% off items, while supplies last.
Although the restaurant’s usual opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (as seen on its website), the video indicates in the same frame as the “closing of the sale” that it lasts from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Profits will go to The Saturday movement, a group of volunteers who seek to befriend elderly and needy families, mostly in rental apartments.
